How to Get a Gemini API Key

Business Diver researches a company from public and official sources and writes a structured report with an AI key you bring. We recommend a Gemini key from Google AI Studio: you need a Google account, and a typical report costs $0.04 to $0.23 on Google's paid tier.
What an API key is
An API key is a password for software. With it, Business Diver asks Google's Gemini models to write your report, and Google counts that use on your own account, at your own tier and prices. You stay in control: you can delete or replace the key in Google AI Studio at any time.
Free and paid keys
Bring a Gemini API key. Google decides which tier your key is on; new personal accounts start on Google's free tier. Google's terms for your region apply to your key.
- Free tier. No charge. Gemini 3.8 Flash writes both Fast and Deep reports, within limits that Google sets for each project and shows on AI Studio's rate limit page.
- Paid tier. Deep reports are written by Gemini 4 Argon, Google's flagship reasoning model, and the limits are higher. You link a billing account in AI Studio and prepay credit, at least $5 or the equivalent; unused credit expires after 12 months. Google's billing guide
- Your data. Business Diver sends Google the company you asked about, the public material it collected and its report instructions. On the paid tier, Google does not use them to improve its products. On the free tier Google does use them, except in the EEA, Switzerland and the UK, where Google applies its paid-tier data terms to free use too.

What a report costs
With a free-tier key, reports cost nothing. On the paid tier, Google charges each report to your key at its list prices. Estimates for a typical report, at Google's prices as of 5 November 2026:

Google has already published the new prices of Gemini 4 Argon from 1 December 2026 and Gemini 3.8 Flash from 1 January 2027, and the table includes them. A report's cost depends on how much material we find about the company; a typical one sends Google about 25,000 tokens and gets about 5,000 (Fast) to 6,000 (Deep) back. Create your key in Google AI Studio
- Open the API keys page in Google AI Studio and sign in with your Google account.
- If Google shows its terms of service, accept them. New users then get a project and a key automatically.
- If no key is listed, click "Create API key".
- Copy the key, paste it into Business Diver with Gemini selected, and click "Activate".
The keys AI Studio creates today are auth keys, and they work with Business Diver.

The API keys page is empty, and you have used Google Cloud before
Google creates a default project and key only for new users. In AI Studio, open Dashboard in the left panel and choose Projects, click "Import projects", select one of your projects and click "Import". Then open API Keys and click "Create API key".
Google asks you to accept its terms
Accept them. Google creates your first project and key only after you accept its Terms of Service.
Google asks you to verify your age
Google AI Studio is for people aged 18 and over. Check the birthday on your Google Account, complete Google's age verification, then open AI Studio again. Verify your age with Google
Google says "you do not have access to Google AI Studio"
Your work or school administrator has switched AI Studio off for your account. Ask them to switch it on, or sign in to AI Studio with a personal Google account.
Google says "You do not have permission to create a key in this project"
Your account may not create keys in that project. Ask the project's administrator for a role such as Project Editor, or create a new project that is not part of an organisation and create the key there.
Google says the project must be verified
Some free-tier projects need a one-time check with your phone. On the Projects page in AI Studio, click "Verify project" and scan the QR code. Paid-tier projects need no verification. Open Projects in AI Studio
Business Diver does not accept the key
Check that you copied the whole key and that Gemini is selected next to it. If it is an older key, create a new one on the API keys page: Google now rejects older keys that have no restrictions, and the keys AI Studio creates today work with Business Diver.
Is my key safe with Business Diver?
Your key stays in your browser, never in our database. It expires after 24 hours, and Delete Key removes it at once. When you activate the key or run a report, your browser sends it to our server over HTTPS, and the server uses it only for that request's calls to Google. We never store or log it. Use your key in Business Diver
Sign in, choose Geminiin the provider list, paste your key and click "Activate". Then enter a company name and pick Fast or Deep.
